Brewster, NY, January 10, 2014 – As of January 4, 2014 the federal government has mandated that all pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings and fixtures shall not have more than 0.25% lead with respect to the wetted surface area of products used in potable water applications. The enactment of the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act has three key implications. First, it is now illegal to install non-compliant products in potable water systems, while it is the responsibility of state and local governments to enforce the new regulations through applicable local plumbing codes. Lastly, penalties for non-compliance could range from the forced removal of products to punitive fines and/or private lawsuits.
To comply with the new law, Matco-Norca adheres to a multi-stage process of quality control complete with quality control inspections, internal and third party lab testing that is conducted on a routine basis.
