Brewster, NY, January 10, 2014 – As of January 4, 2014 the federal government has mandated that all pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings and fixtures shall not have more than 0.25% lead with respect to the wetted surface area of products used in potable water applications.  As a leading supplier of valves and fittings, Matco-Norca offers a complete line of lead free products that meet or exceed the criteria of the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (Federally mandated Public Law 111-380).

The enactment of the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act has three key implications.  First, it is now illegal to install non-compliant products in potable water systems, while it is the responsibility of state and local governments to enforce the new regulations through applicable local plumbing codes.  Lastly, penalties for non-compliance could range from the forced removal of products to punitive fines and/or private lawsuits.

To comply with the new law, Matco-Norca adheres to a multi-stage process of quality control complete with quality control inspections, internal and third party lab testing that is conducted on a routine basis.

As the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act takes effect, Matco-Norca looks forward to helping its customers comply with the new lead free regulations.
